YHC greeted the PAX in the gloom proclaiming that today appeared to be a sick day, because I had a bad case of a fever. Yes, a fever for more cowbell. Before the treatment for cowbell fever could begin, YHC covered the mission statement, principles, motto and disclaimer (including “I am not your friend for the next 45 minutes).

CIRCLE OF TRUST: “TOUCH TREE”

A Survivalist Guide advises people how to successfully overcome being lost in the forest. Two recommendations seem to be in direct conflict. Recommendation #1:Remain in the same place so you are more easily found by those searching for you. Recommendation #2: To survive a prolonged amount time in the forest, one must hunt and gather to survive, which requires movement.

To align this recommendations, people are encouraged to find a “Touch Tree,” an easily recognizable landmark that serves as your “North Star.” Remain at the “Touch Tree” until it is necessary to hunt and gather, collect water, or firewood. Return to the “Touch Tree” when the expedition is complete.

The “Touch Tree” is a metaphor for life. Where do you go when you feel lost? You can’t remain lost. But where is your safe place. Where are you most likely to be found. For me, it is F3. I am very grateful to join my brothers in the gloom each morning – F3 is my touch tree.

It is important for us to consider where we find our Touch Tree. It cannot be our jobs, because jobs change. Many PAX members are like me – and experience an unexpected job loss. A Touch Tree cannot always be a person. Family members pass away (as many PAX members have recently experienced), friends move away.

Recently, a RESPECT PAX member shared that he is considering his transition to retirement. He and his M will likely relocate when he retires. He shared that F3 has made him think about retirement differently. When he leaves Omaha, he will now consider where he will move and ensure he has a community of men that he can lean on – a Touch Tree.

Today, reflect on your Touch Tree. Where do you find it? How does it help you find yourself when you are lost?

We ended in prayer.

Grace, Peace & More Cowbell,

Wait Time
