Maize (40th Bday celebration)

Copperfields 204th and F

8 degrees, feels like -7 and cold as hell

The morning started real early as I got home from Des Moines around 11pm the night before.  I think the adrenaline kicked in prior to the pre-run as I couldn’t wait to start my 40th bday Q. I was honored that Barn Door re arranged the scheduled so I could do this on my birthday.  Huge T Claps to BD and Truily for making that happen.

Also, I special shout out to Blades of Glory who helped get Farva and Slick out for the pre-run and beatdown.  It was great seeing both of them!

Pre – Runners – Barn Door, Vandelay, Farva, Slick, Blades of Glory, Obi Won, and Hard Hat

PAX: Cutting Edge, Vandley (Respect), Slick, Gator, Farva, Lite Brite, Hard Hat, Crab Cakes, Wait Time (Respect), Slow Clap (Respect), Obi Won, Barn Door, Blades of Glory, Fine Print (No Respect), Penalty Box, and Cheap Seats

Cheap Seats welcomed 15 HIM to the Maize.  Gave the mission statement, disclaimer and Credo.  This was a bruiser beatdown as our man Gator came out to celebrate this day.  We stayed pretty close to home at Copperfields.

The PAX mosyed to the fire station to complete warm-o-rama and also the Pre – Thang.  SURPRISE SURPRISE the PAX got to listen to my favorite band Nickelback during this workout.

Warm-A-Rama

We circled up and completed the below exercises

20 Side straddle hops (10 together and 10 in silence) – this was done in honor of my man Wait Time.  We unfortunately didn’t end in unison so we did 5 burpees.

15 high knees IC

15 butt kicks IC

12 tappy taps

12 Big Ones

Pre Thang:  In honor of one of my favorite HIM (Firewalker) we then completed the contra burpee broad jump challenge.  Each PAX member chose a partner and we started the pre-thang

This exercise consists of burpees and broad jumps up to 10.  You start with 1 burpee followed by 1 broad jump, then 2 burpees followed by 2 broad jumps, then 3 burpees followed by 3 broad jumps all the way up to 10!  This got the heartbeat high and warmed up the PAX on this cold day!

Pre Thang 2:   The PAX kept their partner and we attacked Atlas Hill right by the fire department.  The goal of this pre thang was to prove that turning 40 doesn’t mean you are over the hill.  Each PAX member carried their partner up Atlas Hill until they couldn’t anymore and then the partners switched.  This was completed until they got to the top of the hill.  Most HIM were carried via piggy back ride : ).

Once getting to the top, the PAX then completed wheel barrow carries to the south until the hit F street.  Again, they went half way and then switched partners.

Then each PAX member bernie sanders down the hill to the East to complete the Pre Thang.

Thang

The PAX then completed the THANG.  They kept their partner and completed 5 exercises of “40” reps.

40 Merkins

40 Squats

40 Alternating Shoulder Taps

40 Lunges (20 each leg)

40 hand release merkins (whooof)

After each exercise above the PAX member would do a short mosey around a light pole and return to the fire hydrant by the fire station.

Post Thang

Lastly, in honor of my good friend Vandely we completed 20 seconds of plank, 20 seconds of chill cut plank and 20 merkins.  I don’t know about the other HIM but I was gassed.  We then moseyed back to the flags.

6MOM

Gator led us in Gator Spears (10 each side)

Blades of Glory led us in Big Boys

Barn Door took us home with 20 American Hammers (no rancid style)

COT

COT was my reflection on 40 years of life.  I’ve been blessed throughout my life to be surrounded by incredible men who have always been there for me in times of trouble or my mistakes.  It started in high school, my core group of 5 guys never led me astray.  They pulled me back up when I faltered, they held me accountable and made me a better man going into college.

When I entered college I was then surrounded by 5 core guys that did the exact same thing.  I’ve never realized how blessed I’ve been until you actually reflect on the important people you surround yourself with.  I love these guys like brothers still today!

Lastly, I mentioned my current Shieldlock, again another 5 guys that have picked me up, held me accountable and keep helping me be a better, father, husband, son and friend every day!  This group of men have really made me focus on the important things in life like my M and 2.0s.

Thank you to them (Blades of Glory, Gator, Barn Door, and Mufasa) – Shieldlock F3

F3 has been a total game changer for me, I love you all and thank you for the journey over the past 18 months.
