Q: Grassroots

Grassroots welcomed the PAX to the Coop. Gave the mission statement (plant, grow and serve small workout groups for reinvigoration of male community leadership), disclaimer (not a professional so modify as needed), and the Credo (5 core principles—free, held outdoors, open to all men, led in rotating fashion, end in circle of trust).

PAX moseyed to Morning Star church’s parking lot and circled up for warm-a-rama.

Warm-A-Rama:

Side Straddle Hop – 15 IC

Sun Gods – 10 IC (forward and back)

High Knees – 15 IC

Merkins – 15

Side Straddle Hop – 15 IC

Big Ones – 10, nice and slow

High Knees – 15 IC

Air Squats – 15

PAX took a brisk mosey back to Coop and congregated on the basketball court.

Thang:  PAX broke into groups of three to perform “slow burn” workout, which consisted of four movements: (1) Sprint up the hill (the “burn”) followed by slow, deliberate progressions from (2) loooow, form-focused air squats, (3) ten alternating lunges down the hill (completing the descent in a mosey), and (4) hand-release merkins. The workout proceeded as a three-man push, with the sprinter taking over the top-of-hill hand-release merkins, the next man lunging down the hill to take over the air-squatter, the air-squatter sprinting up the hill, etc.

6MOM: Big Boy Burnout. PAX performed .slow, full-form situps for three minutes straight.

COT: Grassroots spoke of the value of slowing down, his personal struggles with distractedness, and the tolls busyness and distractions can take on our health, jobs, and most important relationships. Grassroots encouraged the PAX to reflect on who and what they deem most important, and then to take one tangible action to prioritize those things over the many distractions competing for our attention.

Announcements/Prayers:

  • Prayers for Patton’s friend Christian in the aftermath of his surgery to remove brain cancer and the difficult post-surgery treatment ahead.
  • Prayers for Tugboat’s grandmother, Janice, who suffers from dementia and is moving from her home in the near-term.
  • Grassroots closed out in prayer
