9 Pax: Huffy, Betamax, Stella, Spacebar, Waterboy, Wentworth, Tugboat, Lansbury, and Folsom.
The PAX gathered at the Shovelflags. At exactly 05:30, Folsom welcomed the PAX with the mission statement, the 5 core principles, and a disclaimer that he was not a professional, even though in his mind he really is. Then he began the beatdown thusly:
Warm O’ Rama 05:31
- ¼ mile mosey around the Rainbow Trail
- Sprinklers, ICx12
- Windmills ICx9
- Alt. Should Taps ICx19
- Copper Head Squats ICx13
The Thang: Huffy Hill. 05:41 Folsom lead the PAX on a mosey around the front of the school and down the street to the middle of Huffy Hill, there he had the PAX count off by 3’s. At the stop sign, roughly in the middle of the hill the groups performed the exercises listed on the sheet while 1 person from each group ran to the top of the hill. There they found 1 of the 45 lbs. coupons Folsom had stashed along the road. The PAX performed one of the exercises listed on the cone up there before running back down the hill to join his brothers and send another PAX from his group up the hill.
- Bottom of Hill Exercises:
- 10 Burpees
- 25 Big Boys
- 25 Sumo Squats
- 15 Windshield Wipers
- 20 Ranger Merkins
- 15 Gas Pumpers
- 20 Alt. Lunges
- 25 Box Cutters
- Top of Hill Coupon Exercises:
- 10 Thrusters
- 20 Kettlebell Swings
- 20 Bent Over Rows
- 10 Dead lifts
6 (not even close) Minutes of Mary 06:10 Folsom had the PAX mosey back to the Shovelflag for Mary. He called on 3 PAX to pick and lead exercises for Mary, surprisingly they were mostly exercises that we had already done during the beatdown, I guess it’s hard to think when you’re put on the spot like that.
Mumblechatter: I won’t write anything specific here, but I do have something I want to say about the size of the PAX. Some guys might be disappointed to see so few men around the shovelflag just a few short minutes before the 05:30 bell, but I can honestly tell you that I love seeing groups this size. We stayed together through most of the runs and all of the thang and we were able to chat and make jokes with everyone there.
COT: I talked about how a few years ago I learned that if I keep my gratitude high and my expectations low, then I have a happy a life. It’s been easy to repeat, but harder to put into practice. I had a day like that on Christmas, where my expectations were not met and I was bummed out, but I was able to remind myself of that philosophy and shifted my thoughts to all the things I had to be grateful for that day and it cheered me up. I encourage everyone to take up that philosophy and apply it in there lives as we go into a new year. Gratitude > expectations = happiness.
