The Pre-Pre: YHC arrived at 4:45am to set out cones and ensure our AO was generally free of obstacles and vagrants, and stretch for pre-run. Things looked good. Brilliant October morning.
3 brave PAX arrived right before 5am for the pre-run: Finkle, Stella, and Smashmouth. We did what I understand to be the usual pre-run route from this AO – 2.6 miles.
5:30am we kicked it off. Mission, principles, credo, etc. Think I got it mostly correct. We mosey’d to the basketball court to get it started.

Pre-ThangPAX mosey’d to the top of the park trail, where we did 5 burpees before heading back down to basketball court.PAX then made sweet, sweet love to the beautiful hill next to the basketball court, by doing 5 rounds of 3 merkins at top, 3 air squats at bottom, OYO.  First PAX to finish called Omaha to end the pre-thang.  It should come as a surprise to no one that Smashmouth outpaced us all and called Omaha to move us to the Thang.  Compression socks make you fast.

Thang: PAX numbered off into 5 groups and mosey’d on over to the Soccer Pitch (which in American means “field”), and commenced a 4-station push scenario that looked like this:
Station 1:

  • Tempo Merkins
  • Moroccan Nightclubs (IC)
  • Carolina Dry Docks
  • Chuck Norris Merkins

Station 2:

  • Copperhead Squats (IC)
  • Bonnie Blairs (IC)
  • Monkey Humpers (IC)
  • Bobby Hurleys

Station 3:

  • Plank Jacks (IC)
  • Big Boys
  • Alternating Shoulder Taps (IC)
  • Groiners (IC)

Station 4:

  • SSHs (IC)
  • High Knees
  • Apollo Ohnos (IC)
  • Burpees

Group #5 ran a loop around the pitch, er, field, and pushed everybody simultaneously when they got to Station #1, at which time station #4 would take off on a loop as the new push group.  We were a little sloppy on process at first but we got it together pretty quickly. PAX managed to get through all 4 exercises before Omaha was called at 6:02am.  Mosey to the bball court for some Mary.
Mary

  • Freddy Mercuries IC
  • Frozen Freddies IC
  • American Hammers IC

Name-O-Rama was performed.   I shouted everyone’s name directly into my phone’s microphone like an idiot.  I was excited.  Stella executed the most accurate Swinger impression to date.

Announcements & Prayers

  • Popup at the Steelmill (Halleck Park)
  • 2.0 Workout October 30
  • Betamax said nice things about my VQ.  Thanks Betamax.

COT: YHC talked about motivation for making positive change in our lives, and personal anecdotes about my transition at age 42 from no-physical-exercise-at-all guy to someone who works out pretty regularly.  This transition was really life-changing for me in terms of my personal happiness, confidence, and general well-being.  I look back on it with the ol’ “why didn’t I do this a long time ago” question, and I try to harness that understanding to serve as inspiration/motivation to implement positive change in other areas of my life, both big and small.  I cannot overstate my gratitude for this group of guys for hauling their asses out of bed at 5am to enter the Gloom, because it’s one of the things that inspires me get moving, and I hope that my presence in turn helps inspire others. My F3 goal for the coming year is to engage in an active EH campaign and get some FNGs out of bed.
Toadstool prayed us out.
Great morning. I am thankful.
Aye, Cosmo
