6 PAX: Lincoln Log (Respect x2), Ketchup, Thomas, Kingsford, Teeball, Mother Goose (QIC)
For some reason YHC was nervous about my debut Q at WK so I showed up about 20 minutes early despite having no cones or other props to set up. I spent some time in the darkness and realized that not planning on using a Weinke was a good idea. I also wished I had remembered my head lamp.
5:30 AM- Recited meaning, principles and mission of F3 and gave disclaimer; no FNG’s. Took a little mosey out to the grass field nearest the flags for Warm-o-Rama
- 10 High Knees IC
- 20 Sun Gods IC
- 10 Butt Kicks IC
- 10 Cherry Pickers IC
- 10 Tappy Taps IC
- 10 Big Ones IC
- Small Ones 20 Second hold
- 10 Monkey Humpers IC
- 10 Tempo Merkins IC
Pre- Thang- String of Pearls mosey from the field all the way across the dam (about a mile) stopping every few minutes for an exercise:
- 20 Hand Release Merkins
- 20 Copperhead Squats
- 20 Carolina Dry Docks
- 20 Alternating Shoulder Taps IC
- 20 Monkey Humpers IC
We finished our mosey by coming down to the lake’s edge on the gravel path for the Thang.
The Thang- BLIMPS on the hill.
- We all partnered up for BLIMPS. One partner would run up the dam hill (see what I did there?), perform three Burpees (for the B) and return to relieve his partner that was doing cumulative stationary exercises:
- L- alternating Lunges x100
- I- Imperial Walkers IC x100
- M- Merkins x100
- P- Plank Jacks IC x100
- S- Squats x100
6:00- Omaha Call in order to give us enough time to mosey all the way back to the flags. None of the pairs had gotten to the Squats so we did the squats together String of Pearls style on the way back, stopping 5 times for 20 each. We did the last set when we reached the flag shortly before 6:10, and didn’t have time for Mary.
Announcements and Prayer Requests:
-Help our brother Rollbar out, and prayers for the Kaipust and Valla families.
I have been seeing a Jesuit priest for spiritual direction off and on for nearly 15 years. He works at Prep and has become a very good friend of mine. He celebrated my wedding and baptized both of my children. I just happened to have seen him the Friday before and something he told me stuck with me and fit with the Wilds Kingdom AO.
I was telling him about some work stress I have been experiencing lately. He listened and then just plainly asked, “Well, have you talked to Jesus about it?” I was a little perplexed as to why my Lord and Savior would be concerned about my process for hiring a new basketball coach, so fortunately he followed up with a story.
He shared that quite a few years ago he attended a silent retreat right at the end of a tumultuous school year. He had a lot of anger and internal conflict about it and it was eating him up and getting in the way of his retreat experience. The only time you are allowed to talk on the silent retreat is with the retreat director, who had posed that same question to him. “Have you talked to Jesus about it?”
I was made comfortable when he admitted he was just as perplexed. His retreat director advised him to go sit on the rocks and stare out to see (they were at a retreat center on the Atlantic) and for every boat that passed my he should think about a story of Jesus and a boat in the Gospels. After he got through the two that most easily came to mind (walking on water, gathering James and John) he just spent the rest of the time stewing and allowing frustration to continue to build. He shared that with his retreat director, who then said, “OK now I want you to do it again, but this time every time you see a boat picture yourself sitting with Jesus in that boat. Tell Him everything that is on your mind. Have the conversation and wait to listen to what He may say back.” This time he had a much more profound experience. He laid everything out and noticed how as he went on he became much more at peace as he realized that Jesus was still in the boat. Another person might not have wanted to stick around to listen, but Jesus will.
I offered to the PAX to spend some time in the coming days in silence and picturing themselves in a boat with the Lord, or if they were not religious, perhaps a lost loved one. Bear it all, say everything that is on your mind and notice that the companion in your boat has not left. What do you hear back?
I led us out in a prayer of gratitude.
Here’s to good days and better tomorrows!
Cheers and SYITG,
