This was the morning we had been waiting on for several months.  After nearly 18 months away, it was time for The Oracle to re-establish its home in Boystown.  Although still an interesting time in our world with the pandemic, we are hopeful to stay here now.

There was a special buzz in the air as the PAX assembled and pre-runners were returning from their familiar routes.

I, Vandelay, called the session to order and could sense the extra excitement in the air.  I also felt an extra responsibility to make sure this was a great experience for the PAX, many of which had never experienced this campus before.  I was especially honored to have Wait Time as a Co-Q and Cheap Seats leading as the current Site Q.  Together we had a solid plan for the morning.

I recited the Mission:

The Mission of F3 is to plant, grow, and serve small men’s workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Wait Time reminded us of the 5 Core Principles:

1) It’s free; 2) open to all men; 3) always held outdoors; 4) peer led in a rotating fashion; and 5) ends in a circle of trust.

Wait Time shared some Opening Remarks about the significance of this place emphasized by the original Weinke used at the first Beatdown here.

Special thanks to Tuna Fish for his coordination and communication with campus administration and police to ensure we were welcome to return and wouldn’t be arrested.  I reminded all to make sure we continue to be courteous guests on this campus.  I explained the approach for this morning.  It should be fun and we really planned to orient all to the special options at their disposal.

COT

I have a quote that I think about occasionally and my family hates when it gets used to make a point:

  • Lazy people do a little work and think they should be winning.  Winners work as hard as possible and still worry if they are being lazy.  – Lewis Cavalla

I would have covered more about this but a situation arose yesterday that made me rethink what I would discuss.  I owe Slow Pitch an apology.

I have been modifying and working out on my own for a week or so to lay off some things and get some injuries healed.  I Pre-walked yesterday at Spike and was planning to walk through the neighborhood by myself and go home instead of the doing the Beatdown.  Slow Pitch offered to modify with me if I stayed.  Along my mindset of not wanting to burden anyone and have them alter their plans for me- I declined and left to walk alone.

Slow Pitch later texted me to indicate he was offering because it would have “filled his cup”- the same as the workout.  Next time I need to just say “alright” knowing it might be the highlight of his day.  (Now I don’t know if I agree with that-  But I get the sentiment)  I deprived him of an opportunity to serve because of my selfishness.

When you are offered help- be vulnerable enough to accept.  This not only benefits you but benefits the one who offered- otherwise they wouldn’t have offered.

I am continually thankful to be a part of this great group of men.

Vandelay closed us out in prayer.

Aye, and Welcome home.
