11 Pax: 2 Step, Othello, Buns of Steel, Doll Face, No Doze, Demogorgon, Bovine, Polaroid, Stitches, U-Haul, and Folsom.
The PAX gathered around the shovelflag. Many of the men just arrived back from their pre-run. Folsom welcomed everyone to F3! The mission statement was stated, the 5 core principles were stated with special emphasis on the principle of being led by the members on a rotating basis, and the disclaimer was made. Then the PAX got down to business as Folsom lead them on a mosey around the park and over the bridge to the west.
Warm O’ Rama (7 minutes) (Folsom took this time to Explain and Demonstrate HTC to the PAX because the rest of the beatdown would allow the PAX to get some Practical Exercise.)
- Butt Kickers OYO, while Folsom briefly explained that today’s beatdown would allow everyone a chance to pick and lead an exercise. He called it the Libertarian Beatdown. Folsom explained that as a Libertarian, he believes in everyone’s right to choose for themselves and to suffer the consequences of those choices, but since this is F3, the PAX would suffer together. Folsom further explained that he was not advocating anarchy, and therefore there would be some rules. Each PAX had to use HTC (How To Count) to lead the exercise and it had to be hard. A violation of either rule would lead to punishment burpees for the entire PAX. (Folsom is proud to say that no punishment burpees were needed.)
- String Rippers ICx10, nice and slow
- Imperial Walkers OYO, Folsom explained HTC’s purpose and importance, “it gives [the Q’s] confidence in their ability to lead the PAX and the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in that ability. We [Dredd and OBT] believe that confidence and competence are leadership building blocks, which is at the heart of F3’s Purpose.” Each count represents a movement, and therefore allows the Q to set the pace. Folsom went on to demonstrate HTC with the next 3 exercises.
- Cherry Pickers ICx15
The Thang: String of Pearls, Freed to Lead Libertarian Style (28minutes)
Folsom had the PAX count off, he was number 11. He led the PAX on a short mosey (string), probably .20 miles, then had the PAX circle up for the first of 4 pain stations. The PAX numbered 1, 2, 3 got to pick and lead an exercise at the first stop (pearl). 1 had to lead an upper body exercise, 2 lead a lower body exercise, and 3 lead a core exercise. Then the PAX moseyed another .25 miles, to circle up for numbers 4, 5, 6 to lead with the same guidelines. This continued until returning to the shovelflags at exactly 6:05.
MOM: No need for Mary today.
Announcements/Prayers: 2 new AO’s launch next week! 2 more the following week! Check Slack and Twitter for details.
COT: Khakis had this idea to talk about the core principles of F3 whenever he gives a CoT in 2021. Because it was a great idea, I stole it. Today, I also his job as leader of Q school, as Polaroid pointed out in the beatdown. I started the CoT by asking what is another name for Q, it didn’t take the PAX long to respond with leader. Exactly, I was offering a leader school today. The mission of F3 is to invigorate male community leadership through planting, growing, and serving small workout groups. Leaders are made by actually leading. You can’t watch another kid ride a bike, having never ridden one yourself and then ride a bike expertly. You will fail, but through failing you learn to ride a bike. Leadership is learned in the same way. HTC is blueprint for leadership. To master anything, a man has to have it explained, have it demonstrated, and then have the time to practice it. Q school is explaining what to do. Posting is having it what to do demonstrated for you. Leading a beatdown is practicing leadership. Gaining confidence and competence in the gloom translates to other leadership opportunities. I know, because I’ve used that confidence to be a leader at my job and among family and friends. Now, it’s your time. Be a leader, you’ve been preparing for it in the gloom all these mornings!
