QIC: Tater Tot and Wait Time

Tater Tot and Wait Time greeted 45 other F3 Omaha PAX for the early 1776 Patriot Games.  After welcoming the PAX to the CSAUP, sharing the mission statement, principles and disclaimer, the PAX paused to recognize the day in honoring the country with the National Anthem.

Mosey:½ Mile together

After mosey, PAX split evenly between the following 13 cones.  The group will complete 25 reps of each exercise listed at each of the cones.  PAX stayed stationary at their cone for the entire 50 reps. Rotating leadership from one PAX at a cone going around the circle twice to complete.

PAX did not complete any of the 100 Pull-Ups/Derkins, Dips or Step-Ups until after the second ½ mile mosey in addition to the remaining 50 reps of exercises along with 100 yards of bear craw and 76 burpees.

50 Merkins | 50 LBC’s IC | 50 Cherry Pickers IC | 50 Squats | 50 Mountain Climbers IC 50 Plank Jacks IC | 50 Lunges (25 each leg)| 50 Overhead Claps | 50 Scissor Kicks IC |50 American Hammers | 50 Alternating Shoulder Taps IC | 50 High Knees IC | 50 Side Straddle Hop IC

After completing the 50 reps PAX ran their second ½ mile mosey.  When they returned they completed the following exercises OYO or with a small group at their own pace breaking up the exercises however they would like.  This is when the fatigue set in and water breaks were necessary.  It is amazing how a good song in background can help motivate.

As the men of F3 slowly finished their final rounds some of the PAX hydrated, sipped on hot coffee, enjoyed a banana or breakfast bar.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Expansion.
Tater Tot shared that F3 continues to grow in Omaha.  PAX should watch for details about new sites coming online over next few weeks.
T-claps to Overtime.  Pax recognized Overtime for creating three new shovel flags for F3 – including a great flag created just for the Patriot Games.

Prayers.  Water Boy asked that PAX pray for Balboa’s family (Dave Paladino).  Dave was a PAX member who was active in 2020.  He passed away in an airplane crash on Thursday morning in Iowa.

Prayers for PAX safety during the holiday weekend.

COT: THE SANDLOT

Wait Time shared F3’s connection to the movie the Sandlot.  The SANDLOT is arguably one of the greatest nostalgic summer movies ever made. It’s a great movie about baseball. It’s also best movie ever made about F3 and FNGs. Nicknames? YES. Boys only YES. Sad clown YES. Community pool like Rockbrook YES.  If only Rockbrook had Wendy Peffercorn.

The movie opens with Smalls, the new kid in town looking for friends. He’s mother tries to persuade him to get outside and meet other kids.  Smalls courageously decides to venture out one day after school when he followed a group of eight boys to the Sandlot.  Here is how he described the Sandlot:

“I followed them to the Sandlot one day after school. I’d never seen anything like it. It was like their own little baseball kingdom or something. It was the greatest place I had seen, anyway. They are good . Real good. All I had was a plastic toy mitt that my grandmother gave me for my birthday when I was six.

“But when I finally got up enough guts to go out there and try and make friends, I found out that they never kept score, they never chose sides, they never even really stop playing the game it just went on forever.

“Every day they picked up right where they left off the day before . It was like an endless dream game.

“They didn’t have a whole team so even though I didn’t know how to play I figured I could be the ninth man or maybe just stand in the outfield and take up space.”

Smalls gets hit by a pop fly. And shows he doesn’t know how to throw a baseball.  All he could say to himself was “Don’t be a goofus, don’t be a goofus.”This was my internal dialogue when I was an FNG.

Smalls described the experience, “If wasn’t for Benny I wouldn’t have made a single friend that summer. All the other guys thought I was a lost cause.”Like many FNGs, Smalls first workout was not great.  But Benny did not give up on him.  Benny comes into his driveway the next day and asks him to play baseball. “Don’t you like baseball?” asked Benny.   “Yeah, but my glove is busted,”said Smalls.

Benny rolls his eyes.

“It’s ok. I got an extra one,” said Benny. Just like Brazilian, Benny won’t take no for an answer.

Throughout his second visit to the Sandlot, Benny offered advice and support to Smalls.  He didn’t criticize his form.  He included him in the group.  Like many FNGs, Benny told Smalls, “You think too much.”

Throughout the second day at the Sandlot, he watched Smalls grow in confidence.  Benny believed in hi, and the other boys followed. Most importantly, he helped Smalls believe in himself.”

When they walked home, Benny said, “I will see you at 8 AM tomorrow morning.”

Just like an enthusiastic FNG, Smalls runs into his house to share about his day, “Hey mom guess what?”

I have watched the Sandlot dozens of times. Recently, I watched it again.  I had not noticed how the movie reflected what we experience in F3 and how Smalls was clearly a Sad Clown.  It is amazing what happens when someone believes in us.

Tater Tot finishes with a prayer.

What a tremendous morning.  Tater Tot and I were honored to lead.

Grace & Peace,

Wait Time

7:00 AM Group

AO: – Aldrich Elementary

July 4, 2020.  7:00 AM Time slot.  69 Degrees with 95% Humidity- Yeah – That’s right.  Pretty hot this morning.

QIC: Vandelay and Room Service.

The PAX:

PAX:  Stella, Polaroid, Room Service, Drano, Dogecoin, Mother Goose, FNG- Green House, FNG- T. Swift, FNG – Hey Hey, Samples, and our Down Range friends from Charlotte -Skipper, Couch Potato, Stone Breaker, Little Buddy

I arrived early to set up coffee and some snacks for the 5:30 group – to notice they were in the throws of completion- all looking gassed.

We had a nice spread already set up by the early Qs- with table cloths – even.  Very classy.

Room Service and I were concerned that our morning would be he and I pushing each other through the 7 AM version of the Patriot Games, which we decided we would be fine with doing.  As we approached 7 , a good looking group started to assemble.  The size of the group was aided by 3 FNGs that  decided to attend of their own research on the internet (hope they come back), 4 Down Range visitors from Charlotte including a Skipper, and a pair of similarly dressed PAX members that have made their rounds of social media today.

Vandelay and Room Service covered the essential opening remarks, welcomes, and disclaimers.  Tater Tot then joined our group to remind everyone why we were doing this and played the National Anthem from his phone for us over the speakers.

We started with a mild Warm-A-Rama:

10 Tappy Taps IC

10 Cherry Pickers IC

10 Imperial Walkers IC

And then we started the official event.

Announcements:

  • Shovel Flag pass at Tope Rope this week
  • Shovel Flag pass at The Oracle Next Saturday- Thanks to Vandelay for not screwing things up, blah blah
  • Shirt Orders for F3 Nairobi
  • And likely some items I am forgetting

Prayers:

  • Prayers for David Paladino and family who died in a plane crash yesterday.
  • Prayers for all our families to have a safe 4thof July weekend

COT:

Room Service shared some thoughts on what has been sacrificed over history and what continues to be sacrificed so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we do.  We should not take for granted what we have in this country and we need to be mindful of what it takes to be maintained.  We appreciate our veterans who have contributed to protecting our rights to live as we do.  Be safe and enjoy celebrating this weekend.

Vandelay took us out in prayer.

My thanks to Room Service for CO-Qing with me and thanks to Tater Tot and Wait Time for their leadership at the Oracle on this special morning.
