Mission Statement and 5 core values given and a reminder I am not a professional. PAX are told they have the ropes so that they can Jump Rope to the Six today. A reminder of the ice is given and the group sets off.

First stop the warm-o-rama parking lot.

The Thang-Jump Rope pain stations

At every stop along the way the following pain stations will occur.

20 Jump Squats

15 Twinkle Toes

12 Bonnie Blairs IC

First person to 200 jumps gets the group moving on to the next station

We start right away with this and Jean Claude is the first to 200. This seems to be much more difficult in the wind than anticipated. With he Ice and audible is made to take regency parkway to pacific and down to the lot in across from Runza.

Winner this time is Huffy. And quickly done at that.

We need cement for this beatdown so head back to Regency Parkway and stop in the parking lot of the Regency Appts. We hit beautiful work again

Sparty and Armbar tie with the 200 reps.

I instruct the group to head to the top of the hill. A long mosey. So we stop for a couple of ten Counts at the bottom of the hill. I will say it was for the PAX but I needed this break as well.

Next stop at the top of the hill.

Went with 100 jumps so that we could get out of the street. Didn’t like the deep focus the PAX was showing with the jump ropes combined with the middle of the street. I don’t remember who hit 100. Maybe 2 step or Lucky Charms. Either way well done so we could head back down the hill to the flags.

Currently I am reading a book by the Head Coach of the Ohio State wrestling team Tom Ryan. Chosen Suffering. In the book he talks about 2 types of suffering. Chosen and Unchosen. For example the running you did today was chosen, but all the jump roping was unchosen. Tom Ryan did his chosen suffering in the iowa wresting room. To push himself as hard as he could with the best in the world. “To take you opponent to a place they don’t want to go you must visit that place first” Everyday we chose to suffer in the gloom. To put in work in the early hours before most even think about getting up. In -20 degree weather, lightning and mornings so humid you are sweating before you even leave the parking lot to start the beatdown. On the flip side of that coin however there is unchosen suffering. The things you don’t see coming, the failures, the losses. I experienced it this last week with My teams HWT who lost in the state semis. First lost of the year and lost his chance at a state championship after 2 runner ups the previous years. Though small in the grand scheme it still hurt, and still does. I cried when he finished his last match for 3rd place. I hurt for this young man. But I fully believe that he will do great things going forward at Northern Illinois in football. But in the book I came to the chapter about unchosen suffering and Coach Ryan walked me through the night his son 6 years old suddenly died. Running down the street holding him in his arms trying to meet the ambulance. That was his unchosen suffering. I am reading this during family reading time and trying my best not to lose it. Looking at my children and putting myself in his place. I have been very lucky and blessed not to experience such moment of pain. But I bet some of you in this circle have. It is the chosen suffering we do every day to prepare use for those moments of unchosen suffering. So we can lean on the men in this group, god and family to get us through those hard times of unchosen suffering. So in closing keep chosing to suffer here every day, every other day or even once a week. Because it will help prepare us for the hard times in life.
