Back Blast: Seeking Challenges

Conditions: 23 degrees – 8 MPH wind – faint snowflakes falling.  Perfect for a Wild Kingdom beat down

YHC welcomed the PAX to gloom of the Wild Kingdom. YHC was especially excited to see that Boiling Point had made the trip to the darkest AO.  We grew up together in  Cheyenne and played soccer against each other in college.  We coincidentally ended up in Omaha.  We have known each other for a L.O.N.G. time and haven’t connected for a few years until he joined F3.  As much as I was excited to see all the HIM this was easily the highlight of my morning!

With that, the mission state, core values and disclaimer were dispensed and it was time to mosey to W-a-R.  

It should be noted this beat down was entirely inspired by our friend from Raleigh Captain Kangaroo.  YHC has reminisced about this multiple times and decided it was time to resurrect it.  There were some distinct differences between the two which required me to make major modifications but the intent is there brother.  When he led it was 77 degrees and clear.  Mine was in 23 degrees with a couple feet of snow and packed snow/ice pathways.  Did I mention it was dark?  That led to some chaos too.

Pax moseyed all the way to the boat dock to begin.  You have to say good morning to any runners you pass.  If they respond with good morning then you have to do 5 burpees.  Stay tuned for more on that later.

The Thang:

The Thang was a classic pearls on a string beat down.  The Pax started with a mosey to picnic tables.

3 rounds

The intention was to mosey to the bathrooms but there was too much snow for BTW so this was modified. 

The Pax instead took a mosey around the parking lot to the boat docks and back around to the picnic tables. “Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!!”

3 rounds

  • Dips * 10-15-20
  • chair squats * 10-15-20

Pax then went on a mosey through the woods over the snow to the base of the dam.  Where the path was at the dam is anyone’s call.  Pax stopped at the lower unpaved path and performed 20 Crab cakes IC.

Next pax partner up – 

Partner runs to the top of the paved trail – the other partner runs along the lower trail.  At the end points they turn and run back towards each other When they meet the performed 10 booyah merkins and then continued on their way.  Again, turn at the far ends and running back towards each other when they meet they did 10 Big Boy high 5 sit ups.  This proved to be chaotic because if YHC hasn’t mentioned it yet, this is the darkest AO in Omaha and a bunch of men wearing black look very similar when they are running up and down trails.  Finding ones partner is really hard in these conditions. Fortunately, YHC had a bright fluorescent jacket to make it easy on Doppler.

This was done for 3 rounds before heading back through the woods and over to the gazebo over the water.

At the gazebo the Pax shared responsibilities for counting out one legged squats with one leg on the rail of the gazebo.

Pax took a mosey out to the parking lot (“Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!”) where everyone completed Burpee quadruple broad jumps from one side to the other.

Pax finally were led on a mosey back to the shovel flag.  Great news! There was still time for Iron Hulks!  Pax completed 5 rounds of ascending air hulks in (1:4) ratio.  It was a savage way to end.

6MOM:
With only fumes on the clock 6MOM consisted of Cindy Crawfords * 10 IC (each side).  Recover!!!

COT:
What YHC loves about F3 is the type of men that join. They are the type of men that are looking for excuses to say yes. Even when it is hard (e.g. waking up for a 05:30 beat down) they don’t say, “I could never get up that early.” We all know the responses and the types. They aren’t afraid of difficult things whether they come in the middle of the night with a new baby or in the form of new projects at work. These are the type of men I want to associate with and emulate. Seek out challenges and say yes. Say yes to your kids and get on the floor. Say yes to your M and make clean up the kitchen. Say yes to challenges and dare greatly. Wrapped with the following quotes from Teddy Roosevelt

After all pax had departed and only Merch, Boiling Point and YHC remained 2 runner/dog walkers went by.  We said good morning and they responded cheerfully with good morning.  We did complete the 5 burpees as they walked away giggling.  It was glorious!
