Election Day was here and it was a perfect no wind, 40 something degree morning at the comfortable cushions of The Colosseum at the best High School in the Nation, Westside (take that Birdman)… Go Warriors! There was a solid pre run and pre ruck crew of 9 total which was fantastic to see HIM accelerating! The morning would eventually fill in with 36 PAX ready to rock.

Birdman, Folsom, Tugboat, Khakis (Respect), Pony Express (Hate), Sparty, Dirty Bird, Slow Clap, Wide Right, Slow Pitch, Mother Goose, Bloodshot, Tin Cup, Hoosegow, Stella, Vandelay (Respect), Baskins (Respect), Samples (Respect), Huffy, Safe Ride, Flanders, LPC, Blue Suede, Pantyhose, Toadstool, No Doze, Spacebar, Tenderfoot, Wentworth, Super Tasty, Kill Switch, Gumbo, Big One, Greek Freak and Tater Tot. 

As Tater Tot  was setting up he wanted to check that there was still access to an off-turf location for warmarama and the pre thang (not advised for future Q’s at Colosseum for many reasons…) which was to be located on the west side of campus near the tennis courts with access to a beautiful hill with a wall at the top.  Denied.  The gates were locked.  No worries, it would be easy to use the parking lot adjacent to the field that was well lit and also had access to a wall.  Denied.  The PAX had all congregated inside the winding fence and would take 20 minutes just to get them all back out….  2 minutes until 5:30am and now no warmarama or pre thang planned….  Intro was given, forgetting to ask for FNG’s and the PAX were sent on a two-lap jog chatting away while Tater Tot tried to come up with a new plan.  Thanks for your encouragement Samples as you heard me say I needed to modify, quick.

Pre Thang:  Welp, here we go.  Hope you had enough time to come up with the pre thang.  Originally planned was to be backwards running up the hill, 10 donkey kicks, back down the hill and 10 merkins.  Rinse and repeat four times adding 5 to the total each time.  Didn’t happen.

What did happen is we jogged down to the north goal line and created two lines.  Each group would complete building 100 yard 80% sprints and finishing with 5 burpees at the opposite goal line.  Apparently, my voice was not confident or loud enough for all PAX as Big One seemed irritated with what we were doing as he didn’t hear and yelled at Tater to tell me after round 1.  As Tater was explaining Slow Pitch, and mind you he had been out for 15 days, jumped right in to protect his little brother and said “Hey Big One!  Get on the line!”  A few nervous chuckles were heard, and we were off on our sprints again.  Big One is a smart cat and picked up quickly on the rinse and repeat and just so you feel good about our relationship we were partners during The Thang.  After completing three rounds Tater was pleased with the huffing and puffing and took the recovery time to explain The Thang and we were off!

The Thang

The PAX were asked to get in groups of 2-3 and would complete the first exercise listed on the cone at the 40 yard line, run up a set of stairs and back down to the field to meet a cone at the opposite 40 and crawl bear or reverse lunge back to the exercise cone.  The rotation would continue for the next 25 minutes in conjunction to a very American playlist per LPC.  For the record I originally had this set up as you would complete 25 reps at the first cone, do the stairs and then 25 reps of the same exercise at the second cone but scribbled that out just prior to starting…  Some of the PAX were savvy enough to start the run first to take the pressure off of the giant group of men all starting with Mahktar’s…..

Tater Tot pushed it too close to 6:15am and proceeded to be long-winded on announcements.

Prayer’s for No Doze’s best friend’s father that was struggling with Covid and has since passed away.

Slow Pitch’s appreciation for all those that have sent love his way during his Covid lockdown.

COT:  I have lived in a world and life full of anxiousness and has always been a part of my life and quite possibly always will be.  There have been choices that have I been made since joining F3 to try and limit the amount of stresses and anxiety such as posting daily and surrounding myself with impactful men.  With it being Election Day on top of an already anxiety filled Covidworld, I mentioned that I had a friend offer advice to utilize theapp called Headspace that concentrates on taking time daily to have a thought or prayer of the day which can assist with allowing you to be in the moment and slowing down just enough to breath and listen to yourself.  Many of you are already committed to taking this time for yourself and that is fantastic but as we know is a constant battle and requires a commitment and consistent work.  The message that was delivered on Tuesday through Headspace was when we are in these deep anxious moments to go to a place of appreciation.  Appreciation is a popular yet truthful word that many PAX have used recently in their COT’s which validates the importance of taking the time to appreciate.  Appreciation can come in many different forms,big or small.  It can be as simple as watching your child smile or a gentle touch with someone you love.  It can be a sunrise or the glow of the moon.  It can be doing something that you love and enjoy.    It can be the PAX that shows up everyday trying to get a little better in their life.  At the end of the day it is perfectly normal to feel and experience anxieties but to remind yourself that there are so many moments in life worth spending time appreciating which in turn can temporarily bring down some of those overwhelming moments in life and renew a soft spirit or connection you have or had in life.  One of my appreciations that brings me instant peace is fishing and connecting with nature and the competitiveness of the catch.  So, on this crazy wild Election Day anxiety filled day, I decided to hit the water for a couple of hours followed by celebrating my middle child, Quinn, seventh birthday which was full of smiles and genuine appreciation for life.  Today was a good day.
