PAX (18): Hashtag, Skipper, Biff, Pothole, Vandelay (Respect!), Piano man, Mufasa, Beta Max, FNG (samsonite), Compost, Blue Suede, Space bar, Cheap seats, Six-shooter, Cousin Eddy, Sweet Tooth, Brazilian, Griswold

Co-Q: Brazilian & Griswold

Halloween 2020, my VQ with the G.O.A.T. Brazilian. When the Plague messaged me, I got super nervous, but also excited. I’ve seen and heard stories of Brazilian and this guy did not disappoint. I muffed a few of the mission statement words because he shows up in his bathrobe with a Busch light and cigar, looking identical to Cousin Eddy. I was laughing, the Pax were laughing so even if the words were muffed no one noticed or cared. So, what would Brazilian and I come up with? Hmm…
There was a lot of Halloween inspired ideas I had but the first thing that came to my mind was a murph. The murph has an “aura” about it I’d say. It’s a workout that challenges any level of athlete. So why not? We only offer it at 2 locations, one day a week. Why not surprise and scare the PAX with one for Halloween on a Saturday! So I asked Brazilian what he thought of the idea and he said “ What an asshole move, I love it.”

So here we are. Murph time.

1 mile run
100 pull-ups
200 merkins
300 air squats
1 mile run

The PAX and I ran west towards the park. We had to make a different move as the trail was too dark ( dang it because we found out later Sparty was hiding in the bushes waiting for us ) and no one had head lamps. I hadn’t informed the PAX yet of what we were doing. When we arrived at the park, we circled up and I apologized and said “Congrats guys were doing a murph today.”

Mufasa jogged away begrudgingly.

So we counted off in 3’s and got to work. After every two rounds we did a core workout.

10x Big boys
15x Low Dollies
15x Flutter Kicks
15x American

At the beginning there was a little bit of mumble chatter, but by the second mosey all you heard was labored breathing.

Each group, because I watched, did a tremendous job in completing the workout. Think we took a head count and had 6 first time Murphers today, so we were glad to hear that.

Once the 10x sets were done, we moseyed back to the shovel flags for name-o-rama, announcements, CoT & prayers.

Announcements: F3 foundation Give2Give

Prayers: Wait Time and his family

CoT: I used the murph to weave in my CoT which was focused on finding that point in a workout where your mind tries to take over your body. We all have an internal governor in our brain that when things get physically hard, our brain tries to get us to stop and get comfortable again. We need to accept that voice, don’t try and bury it, embrace it and recognize it for what it is. I paraphrased from Mr. David Goggins about his 40% rule. Once you hit that spot in a workout where your mind wants to take over, just know that you’re 40% done with the work and that your body is capable of much more than you think it is.

Thank you again for the opportunity to lead these men today and a special thank you to Brazilian for helping me and making me laugh all week long. I’m grateful for your friendship and honored to Co-Q with you.

I took us out in prayer.

Happy Halloween and stay safe. Also, Dad tax on candy is real.

Ayyee! Griswold & Brazilian
