October 29, 2020 | The Maize | Copperfield Park | 32 Degrees and windy

PAX: (13) –  Zerorez, Sasquash, Pot Hole, Dr. Thunder, Pain Killer, Hard Hat, Mufasa, Yodel, U-Haul, Vandelay (Respect), Cheap Seats, Bubbles, Sparty

Co-QIC: Bubbles & Sparty

Pre-Runners: Vandelay (Respect), Hard Hat, Sparty, & Bubbles

It was a cold morning, mainly due to the fierce wind out of the north. Sparty showed up to Maize at 04:30am to set up for the beatdown without being seen, then quickly disappeared into the Gloom. He returned just before 05:00am to join the pre-runners. The 4 brave men took off on a long mosey right into the teeth of the wind. Upon returning, they were greeting by perfect sized gathering of HIM waiting to find out who was on the Q. As the clock struck 05:30am, not a lot of attention was given to the lack of promptness. As Hard Hat was joking to Sparty that he was waiting for someone to pop out of the trees dressed up, Sparty giggled and walked to the center of the circle with a Ghost Week Welcome. Due to the excitement of having Bubbles return to the Gloom, Sparty invited him to join in on the fun, and the two of them took the PAX through the F3 Greeting.

Bubbles then spoke up and took the lead on a short mosey to the basketball court for Warm-a-rama.

  • SSH 25 IC
  • Tappy Taps 10 IC (slowed down)
  • Chinookes – 15 IC, change directions for 15IC
  • Sun Gods – 10 IC F, 10 IC R
  • Moroccan Nightclubs – 15 IC

Now that Bubbles got the PAX shoulders warmed up, Sparty took them on a short mosey to the field for a quick Pre-Thang:

  • Crowd Pleasers: 1:1 ration of Merkins & Groiners building up to 6:6, and back down to 1:1

All that could be heard was the whistling of the wind, so Sparty had no idea how the PAX was being phased by the Pre-Thang. He just put on a brave face and continued on. It was time to jump right into the Thang. Sparty and Bubbles had everyone count into groups of 4 and then explained how this beatdown would operate, The Bermuda Triangle:

  • Push Group: 10 Yurpees
  • 1st Station (AMRAP): A-Carolina Dry Docks, B-Werkins
  • 2nd Station (AMRAP): A-Ranger Merkins, B-Diamond Merkins
  • 3rd Station (AMRAP): A-Crucible Merkins, B-Chuck Norris Merkins

There was very little mumblechatter to be heard, other than “Thank You” when each group got pushed. The PAX got through 2 full rounds at each station, and at 06:05, Sparty’s alarm went off, “Omaha!” The men then made their way back to the shovel flags for Mary.

6 MoM lead by Bubbles:

  • Flutter Kicks 20 IC
  • Gas Pumpers 20 IC
  • Heal Touches 20 IC
  • American Hammers 26 IC – 2 per PAX

Name-a-rama: Sasquash was hardly recognizable, & Bubbles struggled to foot tap Cheap Seats then left Sparty hangin.

COT – “All the adversity I’ve ever had in my life, all of my troubles and obstacles have strengthened me. You may not know it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth is the best thing in the world to happen” – Walt Disney. We have all been kicked in the teeth, and I hope today you felt like you got punched in the teeth. What makes us different is that we are here, and we are doing something about it. We are on the frontlines of the Mental battle our world is facing. We have men that are recovering drug addicts, recovering alcoholics, men battling depression and thoughts of suicide, and men dealing with divorce. We are facing these matters head on as we are being vulnerable and sharing with each other, leaning in when we need to, and using our Shield Locks to help cover our blind spots. We are also facing this everyday by EH’ing sad clowns. We are paving the way and we’re the light at the end of the tunnel. We are making the world a better place. As the 2nd half of our mission statement lays out, “to invigorate male community leadership,” it is our responsibility to stay out front and lead this charge. Continue to lead by example and be there for your brothers when they need you.

Bubbles took us out in a powerful prayer.
