QIC: Sparty

YCH woke up 15 times between 01:30am and 04:30am out of concern that he would oversleep after forgetting to turn on his alarm the day before and missed Icy Hot’s Q, so he was wide awake when the bell rang this morning. Upon arriving to Westside, there were mixed feelings as the forecast originally called for rain (which Sparty devilishly wanted) and there was no rain, but it was greeted by 3 Pre-Runners that got him psyched. Shot out to Wide Right, Griswold, and Grillz for getting in some extra miles before the beatdown. Sparty roamed the battlefield, setting up his stations with anticipation of, “Oh this will work real well today.” As YHC was done with his prep work, he was greeted with by the beautiful smile of our Iron Man, Khakis, who had returned to the Gloom. So good to see that smile.

It was 05:30am, and time to calm the Men down and welcome them to The Battlefield. Sparty was surprised to hear how quiet it got as the PAX allowed for him to recite the traditional F3 Welcome. After a disclaimer was given about modifications, he noticed many of these HIM have not experience a Sparty beatdown before and notified them it would be fun and maybe even a little different. And so it started with a nice mosey from the entrance, around the track to behind the south endzone. Khakis led the way and as the PAX arrived and quickly circled up in anticipation of their normal Warm-a-rama, YHC hit ‘em with his flare for a warm-up:

  • Side Straddle Hop, IC – this ended at 5 and concluded Warm-a-rama.

The PAX then made an incredibly short mosey to the SE corner of the track where a beautiful retaining wall stands. Sparty didn’t want to waste any time and wanted the PAX to get right to work, so we got the Pre-Thang going:

  • Partner-Mile Run: One partner would do a Wall Sit, while the other ran a lap around the track. Upon his arrival to the wall, they would switch. Each man would run a ½ mile total, but a mile as a couple. This is a great way to get guys to push their pace on the track because they know the longer it takes them to run, the longer their partner has to hold a wall sit. Very strategic by Sparty.

This went really well with a lot of mumblechatter along the wall as our quads were trembling. YHC called for the PAX to circle back up and count into 6 groups: there were 5 groups of 4, and 1 group of 3. This was perfect as Sparty wanted to keep the groups small and separated as much as possible. After the count off, YHC explained the order of operations:

Station #1 – Bleachers then run up the stairs and around the stands

  • 30 Dips
  • 20 Derkins
  • 20 Step-ups IC

Station #2 – Track then run around to behind the endzone

  • 20 Starfish Crunches IC
  • 20 Heels to Heaven IC
  • 20 Dying Cockroaches IC

Station #3 – Behind the endzone, mosey to the 20-yard lin

  • 20 Burpees

Station #4 – 20-yard line to the 50-yard line

  • Bear Crawl to the 50
  • Crawl Bear to the 50
  • Spiderman Crawl to the 50

Station #5 – 50-yard line

  • 20 Makhtar N’Diayes IC
  • 20 Merkin Rows IC
  • 20 Hand Release Merkins

Station #6 – South endzone

  • 20 Monkey Humpers IC
  • 20 Groiners
  • 20 Jump Tucks

This went very smooth the first time through. Then, something happened with Shocker…..(YHC never got the story of what happened), but as a result, 3 groups ended up at the same station in turned into a small cluster. The Burpees were not a hit with Ponzi, buy Sparty thoroughly enjoyed being in his group as he lightened the mood. At 06:03 sharp, Sparty’s alarm went off and it was time to call “Omaha!” YHC called the men to the goal line at the south endzone. It was time to introduce the men to a “Post-Thang.” Since Sparty was leading these Warriors at The Battlefield, it only made sense that after all this training, that we take the fight to our opponent.

  • Army Crawl to the 10
  • Spiderman Crawl to the 20
  • Bear Crawl to the 40
  • Lunge to the 50
  • Sprint to the endzone Yelling while we charged

Sparty was the only Warrior Battle Cry that could be heard. Not sure if that is because it was so loud, or he was the only one……There was no 6MoM.

Name-a-rama: Disclaimer was given to keep it to foot taps. Sparty embarrassed himself as he said “Hate” after Baskin’s name, it’s Respect!

Announcements/Prayer Requests: Reminder that Covid still exists and Safe Ride took the men through the protocol. Veterans Day Ruck with Nightcrawler. Ghost week, Shield Lock men! Prayers for the PAX sidelined right now that are either recovering from Covid, and the ones quarantining out of precaution. NoOYO!

COT: As I’ve shared many times in COTs, I encourage you to check out the different F3 Podcasts as they are really good. My COT today is coming from the “Roundtable” episode from last week in which CSPAN hosted Charlotte Minister, David Chadwick. If my COT doesn’t do it for you today, please go and listen to this episode as he talks about Legacy and it’s a great message (https://open.spotify.com/episode/5MQwLIiPwPGSdKjqgud0ua?si=LUO8DHdcR4y-cjeKdtmUMg). I took 3 things from what he shared that I want to pass on to you guys that I think could be very beneficial. He talks a lot about his Faith, as well as his relationship with his M, and 2.0, which is where you want to focus your Legacy (Disclaimer was given that we are Open to all Men, and the “Faith” piece of F3 is not Christian based. I am a Christian and so is David Chadwick. So know that I am not imposing my faith on you, I am simply sharing a piece of my faith with you, which happens to be Christianity):

  1. Don’t find your identity in your kids’ success. You are not their coach, you are their dad!
  2. You spell love T I M E! This particular message was intended for your 2.0, but applies to your faith and your M. What is important is your P R E S E N C E, not P R E S E N T S.
  3. Your mission and where you are supposed to be is right between your feet. The Lord is with you and you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Be present where you stand and embrace that opportunity. Don’t worry about being anywhere else, especially when you are with your M, 2.0, and your God.
