QIC: Thomas

Thomas welcomed 26 PAX to the Wild Kingdom including one FNG. Shared that the shovelpass scheduled for today would be rescheduled due to a work conflict for Tonight Show. Gavethe mission statement, disclaimer, and the Credo. Also shared that this post, like all led byThomas, would include an Olde Town Pain Train. For those unfamiliar, any time we heard atrain or train whistle we would need to stop for 10 burpees. Sadly, no trains were running thismorning.
The PAX performed a mosey around the grass circle and toward the parking lot near the boatlaunch where we circled up for warm-a-rama.

Pre-Thang: The PAX counted off into four groups to kick off a Bataan Death March. Each group began a slow mosey along the park road headed toward the 156th entrance. The trailing runner would perform 5 burpees, then sprint to the front of his pack. This march continued to the end of the east soccer fields where the PAX turned around and headed back toward the shovel flags to prepare for the Thang.

Thang: The Thang consisted of the PAX remaining in their four groups for a William Wallace. We descended onto the dark pitch of the soccer field with a single light at center field. The groups each positioned themselves at one corner of the soccer field, waiting for the cry of “Freedom!” to commence the exercises.

The cry of “Freedom!” was heard and one PAX from each corner sprinted toward the light to join the others in a set of exercises. Upon completion, they returned to their team and sent the next HIM. The PAX that remained back performed various exercises while their teammate was out in battle. Many other PAX also yelled out for “Freedom!” as they ran to the middle. The cries echoed out for what seemed like miles in the still of the Wild Kingdom.

Center Field Exercises (each exercise performed by entire group before proceeding to nextone):

  • Groiners – 10
  • Carolina Dry Docks – 15
  • Jumping Bean Squats – 15
  • Tempo Merkins – 15

Group Exercise (Held until all members had completed the round)

  • Plank
  • Al Gore
  • Chilcutt Plank
  • Snowflake Plank

The group was a little larger than I had expected, which led to much longer rounds than anticipated. It was suggested that perhaps each group should have sent two PAX to the battle, and this was noted for future Qs. But in this case the PAX battled through the rounds and succeeded in battle. Omaha was called and we returned to the shovel flags for Mary.

  • Starfish – 20 IC
  • Big Boys – 20
  • American Hammers – 25 IC

I had run across the following quote on Twitter, perhaps shared by someone in F3, and it really resonated with me. In addition, several recent COTs have hit a similar point from different sources.

Ralph Waldo Emerson He said, “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”

I challenged the HIM here today to leave the past in the past, and not fret about tomorrow, but cherish and own today. Be present in your day, whether at work, with family or friends, or even at F3.
