9/12/2020 | Oscar Mike AO | Memorial Park, Omaha, Nebraska| 5:30-9:00 am

PAX: Roll Bar, Night Crawler, Gumbo, Wentworth, BetaMax, Flipper, Grand slam,  Two-step, Mac & Cheese, Jeeves

Q: BetaMax & RollBar

Weather: 55 degrees and cloudy with slight precipitation at some points

BetaMax welcomed everyone at 0530 and read through the event timeline from 9/11/01 which matched the time we would we rucking. BetaMax gave the mission statement, core principles and disclaimer. This event was also being done in partnership with GoRuck, The Travis Manion Foundation and RuckingChallenges.

The PAX grabbed their rucks and began the first of 110 loops around the Memorial Park staircases.

55 loops of the stairs represented the first of the World Trade Center towers. The PAX rucked to the flags placed by Omaha’s Rotary Club: https://www.ketv.com/article/911-tribute-flags-display-memorial-park/28945475, one for each person who lost their lives during the attack on America that day. We had a moment of silence.

The PAX completed another 55 loops for the second tower and again had a moment of silence at the field of flags memorial.

Mumlechatter

There was a significant amount of mumble-chatter during this event. Several veterans participated, including one who chose to enlist on 9/11. There was a lot of reflection on The Global War on Terrorism and ultimately prayers for our country going forward.

COT: 9/11 reflection points, but this one sums it up best:

“It was the worst day we have ever seen, but it brought out the best in all of us.”

—Senator John Kerry
