Your Humble Correspondent (YHC) welcomed the PAX to a rainy gloom. Always trying to be a positive force in the gloom, I shared the good news. There would be no “STEINL” during this workout. YHC is nursing a shoulder injury, therefore the PAX will walk away with a six pack, and a leg day workout. It was a special day, as tomorrow marks my five-year anniversary for joining F3. Appreciated the 13 PAX members who came out in the rain to accept a beatdown. After sharing the F3 mission statement, principles and disclaimer, the PAX moseyed to the boat dock for Warm-A-Rama.

COT: “Second Wind” by Bill Russell, NBA Hall-of-Famer
F3Omaha is thriving. Five new workouts and over six hundred PAX participating in workouts over the past two years. Many PAX are accelerating in life and achieving unexpected levels of fitness and leadership. I want to continue encouraging the PAX to accelerate as I celebrate my fifth year with F3. This message might best be vocalized from our “RESPECT” PAX or “PRE-RESPECT.” It speaks to how you keep grinding beyond your goals and maintaining a champion spirit.

From Bill Russell’s “SECOND WIND.”
It’s much harder to keep a championship than to win one. After you’ve won once, some of the key figures are likely to grow dissatisfied with the role they play, so it’s harder to keep the team focused on doing what it takes to win. Also, you’ve already done it, so you can’t rely on the same drive that makes people climb mountains for the first time; winning isn’t new anymore.
“Also, there’s the temptation to believe that the last championship will somehow win the next one automatically. You have to keep going out there game after game. Besides your getting older and less willing to put up with aggravation and pain…when you find someone at the age of 30 or 35 (or 45 or 50) who as the motivation to overrule that increasing pain and aggravation, you have a champion. Rarely, will you see an athlete who hasn’t put on 10 or 15 pounds over a full career, but even rarer are the ones who don’t put on the same amount of mental fat. That’s the biggest killer of aging champions, because it works on your concentration and your mental toughness, which are the margin of victory; it prevents you from using your mind to compensate for your diminished physical skills.”

This quote really spoke to me as I near 50 years old. Right now, I am nursing a shoulder injury. It is easy to gain mental pounds that keep me from posting in the gloom. I encourage all PAX to lean into F3. Find ways to participate. Some PAX have never posted outside in the winter. The days are getting shorter, and winter is coming. Don’t let mental fat keep you from posting when the conditions become more challenging. The winter brings us together. For many of us, we would rather battle the elements of January than July. Cheers to getting your “Second Wind.”

I closed with a prayer.

Grace & Peace,

Wait Time
