March 12, 2020 and a beautiful morning in the gloom

PAX: Tonight Show, Lemon Law, Gunner, Crab Cakes, Barn Door, Hard Hat

QIC: Hard Hat

YHC welcomed the PAX to the Maize, especially Gunner for making a consecutive visit and his third time WOW (Way Out West). Warm temps partners with a little moisture and breeze made for a comfortable setting for this beat down.

Warmarama consisted of a mosey around the football field with exercises in motion called out. Karaoke 👉 Lunge Walk 👉 Butt Kicks 👉 High Knees… upon return to the starting point, we circled up to continue the warm up with some side straddle hops … as the pax were counting IC, Ethanol flew into the parking lot, and proceeded to walk out onto the field to greet the PAX. Dressed in work attire, it was obvious he wasn’t going to join in the sweatfest, but wanted to say hi. NOTE: it’s virtually impossible to have a conversation and count in cadence at the same time (who knows how many SSH were accomplished?). After Ethanol’s departure, warmarama resumed with Tappy Taps 👉 Windwills.

The Thang 1: Bearcrawl 123

PAX partner up. 1 partner performs exercise while other bear crawls to shovel flag, the crawl bear back to partner. Switch. Partners perform exercise until total reps completed, then moves to next exercise. Exercises: 100 Merkins 👉 200 LBCs 👉 300 squats

It should be noted that the distance from sideline to parking lot is probably 20-25 yards, with a slope that changes for a sidewalk. Crawl bears were deceiving, because you would go downhill, lose sight of your partner around the sidewalk, go uphill slightly, then back downhill.

YHC had placed a speaker near the field during this routine, and towards the end, someone asked if there was going to be some music. The music was intended for the next thang, but YHC decided to start it a little early to give the PAX an idea of what was to come. The first song…. Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. The mumble chatter and anticipation of burpees was very amusing. Sadly for some, there were no plans for burpees.

The Thang 2: The 90’s

Each exercise is performed for 90 seconds, while enjoys some tunes from the nineties. Exercises: Abe Vigodas 👉 Sun gods with calf raise 👉 Overhead clap 👉 Mountain Climbers 👉 Lunges 👉 Flutter Kicks 👉 Big Boys 👉 Heels to Heaven 👉 American Hammers

The end of the thang included core work so that 6 MOM would not be necessary. For those wondering about 90s playlist, it’s “All out 90s” on Spotify. YHC did not preview the list, which was on random. Here’s what we got: Tubthumping 👉 She’s so High by Tal Bachman 👉 Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins 👉 Lump by The Presidents of the United States of America 👉 I Cant Dance by Genesis

A lot of crazy stuff seems to be happening this week, and at times can feel a bit overwhelming. A flashback to the nineties reminded me of simpler times, when I had much less responsibility and was a pretty carefree time of my life. A simple playlist can be somewhat of an escape from some of the chaos that surrounds us. Control what you can. Whatever happened yesterday, forget about it. Today is a new day, a fresh start.
