Pre-Thang

We divided into groups of 3 and did a one full round grinder to get everyone’s hearts pumping. The exercises were divided between the 3-man teams as such:

Station 1 –  Calf Raises on the stairs of Memorial Park.

Station 2 – Superman on the middle landing between the staircases

Station 3 – Running lines with 1 burpee performed per touch of the baseline. This wind sprint took place on the lowest landing at the bottom of the staircases.

Once we had completed one full round, allowing each man to go through each station, we moseyed back up the stairs to the east side of the memorial where we began the Thang.

THE Thang

YHC gave the explanation that each round would always begin with 5 burpees and end with 1/8 mile run from Station 1 (on the east side of the memorial) to Station 2 (on the west side of the memorial). The best route to use was to take the sidewalk towards the next station, but rather than take a straight route, run down the closest staircase and up the opposite staircase in order to reach the next station and begin the next round. Each team was also instructed to stay together to work as a team. En route to the next station, teams were able to pick up the next exercise to add to the round and this was setup as not only a physical exercise but a bit of a mental exercise/memory game to help us better start the day.

We completed 8 of the 10 rounds that were planned (below):

ROUND 1 –  5 burpees, 1/8 mile run to the west side of the memorial

ROUND 2 –  5 burpees, 10 merkins, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 3 –  5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 4 –  5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 20 carolina dry docks, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 5 –  5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 20 carolina dry docks, 25 squats, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 6 –  5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 20 carolina dry docks, 25 squats, 30 sec elbow plank, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 7 – 5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 20 carolina dry docks, 25 squats, 30 sec elbow plank, 35 American Hammers IC, 1/8 mile run

ROUND 10 – 5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 LBCs, 20 carolina dry docks, 25 squats, 30 sec elbow plank, 35 American Hammers IC, 40 sec partner people’s chair or 3 amigos chair, 45 side straddle hops, 50 Cherry Pickers, 1/8 mile run

Circle of Trust

Baby Grand asked the HIM to look out over the city from their vantage point and shared about a technique he is working on using with his team at work that requires him to shut up and listen rather than coach and talk over them all the time. The acronym for the technique is WAIT  – and stands for Why Am I Talking. It’s simply a reminder to listen, to be still, to take in and enjoy the moments of every day.

As we head into holiday season, he also reminded the PAX of the verse from Luke 2:19 – but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often – to again be still, to breath in and enjoy those moments with family, friends, and co-workers. To not always talk, but to look up from everything that we become so focused on and to be thankful for these beautiful lives we’ve been given.

We concluded with prayer and headed out to a great Thursday!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the beatdown and thank you for the honor of being able to lead you this morning. Grateful for you all.

Aye!

Baby Grand
